This project was the last and biggest project yet in quarter three and it has to one of my favorites. I chose this project as my a sample of my work since, I am very proud of my self and how well the project is and went. I work very hard and was very committed to not only finishing the project but making sure my project gets to the point. This project was at least a week long that made it a bit difficult to finish on time so, it required a lot of time out of school especially on the weekends. Out of most projects this school year this has to be one of my favorites.
This assignment was posted as a evolution project based on honey creepers but, another option was a lot harder way that was picking your own species and doing your own research. Only one other person and I chose to do a different species, I chose to do a different species because its different and the evolution of honey creepers is taught to us every year. In this project you had to write over 6 paragraphs in 1st person and list your species habitat and their daily life. Than you had to also show how your species relates to speciation, evolution, adaptive radiation ,and the founder effect. In this project you also had to make a graphic organizer and photogenic tree of your relatives. At the end you had to recite your sources.
A few goals I had when starting this project, was that my finished project would meet all the requirement and be to my liking. This project challenged me since I was basically the only one doing a certain species so I had to do all my researching while the honey creepers articles were posted online. I also would normally ask for help from other people but, this project I couldn't. At the end I was happy no one was doing my species since everyone payed more attention to my since it was not about birds. Another goal I had was to make sure I finished on time and I was ready to present.
This also showed my ability to be able to think out side the box. It also showed my abilities since I put a lot of effort into making sure my project answered everyone questions. It also show cased my ability by finding 2 articles and putting them together with the same information and new information. For example, I found one article on how the cichlids lived and how their life is. Than I found more of a scientific article about a experiment on how cichlids ranked themselves by fighting. I used both articles to create the idea of how fighting and automatic ranking effected their daily lives and evolution.
This project was very solo so, I used 21st century skills like self-directional and information skills. I showed self-directional skills when I new what I wanted and decided ways to get those certain aspects of this project I wanted. For example in this project I wanted to show a great example of the founder effect and I found certain ways to get that like I found a few articles but I could tell that some were not towards my point. The next 21st century skill is information skills that is when you are able to find information in different ways and be able to use that information. This century skill was most likely the most important or used in this project. When I researched this fish, there was many articles that were only about taking care or how to set up a fish tank. With so many articles on things I did not need, I needed to find a away to find these certain articles, a few ways were typing more specific into the search bar, noticing the brand of website and than just using time wisely finding the ones that helped.
