This project was in Quarter 3, it was about 2 weeks long. In the beginning of the project you found three projects you were interested in. Than you had to decide on a project that met all the requirements. For example the project had to challenge you. After that you had to make sure you were ready for the project by getting permission and gathering supplies. The project I was building was a green house and at this next stage after about 1 week, I had to be approaching half way done and at this stage I had the PVC pipes cut and put together into a rectangle. The next couple stages was almost done and finishing. I had to put netting on the structure using zip ties. This was the main time consumer of the project, it was simple but just a long haul. The project also had you take many photos, to show your process. II had many goals threw out this project, in the beginning I really wanted to find a project that would benefit me and find a project that I would use threw out high school. Half way threw the project I really hoped that my pipes would stay together and not fall apart. near the end I had the goal of finishing on time since I landed this project right on the due date and time.
I chose this work sample since I really enjoyed this project even though it was challenging. Other assignment you don't really have something to really show for it, but for this project I have the greenhouse. I also want the people that see this portfolio to see this project and how I went threw the process of building it.
This project showed that I can find solutions by my self when a problem is given to me. For example during this project a problem I had was that pipes kept popping out since some pipes were to long, that forced them out. I overcame this problem by actually forgoing it and use the netting and zip ties to hold it together.
One area for new growth is time management since I needed to know that this project wasn't going to be a piece of cake and it doesn't hurt to be ahead. Another thing is making sure that something is done right because you don't want to do something wrong that make you have to redo something like cut a hole in netting that realizing its to large for the door and having to get new netting to replace it. When I have some spare time on my hands I might decided to build a self watering system since there are already irrigation set up and all I need to do is change a bit of water settings and add a extra flexible tubing.
This project showed a few 21st century skills, a few are communication skills since how are you going to get your project done if you don’t just explain what you need and explain to other people how the project is working out and what you might need for it. In this project I needed PVC pipes a certain size so I made sure, that they were available by talking and asking before I picked that project. Another 21st century skill, I especially used was thinking and problem solving since there were so many hiccups that were a major set back that I had to deal with. A problem I had while building was that zip ties were too shark when you cut them and had a possibility of snagging the net. I solved that by making sure cuts are flat and they were pointed towards the inside.
