The senior project is the biggest project of high school and I knew I wanted to really build that showcased my skills and made a difference in the community. A rising interest for has been in business, which led me to my driving question "How can I improve my community and build my business?" Going into this project, I had background knowledge around the community impact, the market, and supplies. Throughout this 6 month project, I had to document my progress every two weeks, create five method cards, a essay, 2 x progress presentations, final presentation, and the reflection.
Project must have mentors and for mine, I got great help from Jared James and Kia Ellis. Both mentors shared valuable insights towards business and communication. Jared James helped me create my business plan and modeled his own company. Kia Ellis helped with the retail aspect.
Later into the project we created method cards. Cards were used to interview people surrounding your project for feedback and opportunity. Each card needed quantitative and qualitative questioning. I used my method cards on Island grocery, landscapers, and retail stores.
We also had to create a research essay that was connected to your project that was around 750 - 1000 words. My essay's claim was "With a large industry holding up botanical productions, an accelerated growth is here". As evidence, I explained the growing market at 3% each year and the realization towards the benefits.

STAGE 2
During stage 2, I created Hawaiian Bloom's website on Fiver which cost $26 per month. I also created my EIN number to be identified by the IRS. I found a craigslist buyer asking for 300-500 plumeria cuttings a week for a $1 each. This was good practice and a strong connection. I also started finding materials for packaging our products. STAGE 3 In this last stage, my business really started coming together. We started selling our products at Fourth Friday, but got rained out the first one. We also put up our products in Maui Island Treasure, a tourist retail store in Maalea. All of our products also needed to be stamped by Hawaii Department of Agriculture (HDOA). A few skills that were challenged and strengthened
From this project, I learned the importance of connections and strong communications. I was also challenged by the HDOA and USDA and Fourth Friday.
I would also like to acknowledge Maui Plumeria Gardens, Layla, and the HDOA. |
