Profe Cogliandro introduced a two person project called Proyecto de Intercambio Cultural for Spanish 2 this year.
Proyecto de Intercambio Cultural is a Spanish project assigned to partners of two. For this assignment, you research an exchange program in another Latin American country. I was partners with Ty, we worked on an exchange program in Argentina. First, we started off with the driving question: If I could hop on a plane tomorrow and spend time of immersion in a Spanish-speaking country, what program would I sign up for and what would be accomplished? We had to create creative slides clearly explaining the program. On the slides, we had to research and explain the purpose of the exchange program, dates of travel, cost, places that will be visited, and the country's culture. A huge thing about this project is that the WHOLE presentation had to be presented in Spanish. Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? For this assignment, I feel that I used communication skills the most. In this project, Ty and I worked cooperatively together and had to communicate clearly to an audience in a new language. Communication skills include communicating effectively with a variety of members. I improved my 21st skill, communication by practicing, and since this project was quite different than others. It brought new presenting skills and thought to this skill. What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? After we finished the project, I and my partner were most proud of how creative and well-informed the slides were. We used vocab people knew, so people understood when we explained. We also added a new vocab with definitions on the side. We were proud of how the slides kept people enthused and the amount of work we put into them. What was most difficult about completing this task? The most difficult part of the task was presenting, speaking Spanish is already hard when you are going slow and now we were in front of a crowd presenting in Spanish. Already from the start, we knew it was going to be difficult, so we created note cards to remind us of topics and words, and sentences that we had trouble with. We read off the slides at times because the Spanish dialect sometimes came across wrong. It was also very nerve-racking since everyone would notice when you mispronounced and didn't know how to correct yourself. |
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I redid this project, I would do more rehearsing of the slides like a mock presentation, we can prepare for what may be next on the slide. If we rehearsed more, we would have likely caught more grammar issues and sentence issues that came across when we presented to the class. How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? At home I come from a house with many languages being thrown around, my mom speaks Indonesian and my grandmother speaks Chinese. There will be times when I try to catch what they say and try to speak it. When I speak it comes across slow. This relates to this project since when you work on speaking a language you start slow and hopefully it becomes easy with practice. How can you apply this to future learning? I can apply this to future learning when I perhaps come to an audience with a different dialect. I will know how to effectively communicate and help them understand the topic. This project also expanded my Spanish, I have Latin friends with that I can communicate to better. |
