This project lasted almost the whole quarter, but it was more like a lot of mini project in one. So in this large project you had to first pick your Hawaiian hero off a list. On this list I picked Eddie Aikau. Everyone in the class got different Hawaiian hero's. After that you had to make a quiz note card, where basic questions would be asked and you had to answer. After that you had to write a 5 paragraph argumentative essay saying why your hero is important. Another thing you had to do is a Hawaiian hero reflection, where you voted for some else essay and explain why you picked it. You got to also draw a self portrait of your hero.Lastly there is the Hawaiian hero debate, where you go up against other people explaining why your hero is better with rebuttals. With all these project you got points from votes on who's was better. At the end I got 10 points with 3 other student as first place. The top 5 winners were team leaders and other people with less votes were put into these groups. With at least 2 or 3 people per group, you had to make a movie trailer for the winners Hawaiian hero. And at the end the overall winner will be picked.
I decided to show this project on my portfolio since I wanted to share a project that took up a lot of time.I also want to show many work examples using creativity and work. I also like how this project was planned with my Hawaiian hero. This project showed a lot of strengths and weaknesses since the combination of types of work.
When I was starting this project a few goals of mine were to understand all the aspects of the project since if I do one part of the project, I can most likely use that for other parts too. When it comes to art I am alright at it but for this project I decided to add certain parts like a Hawaiian symbol for courage and other signs. I did not do so well on the argumentative essay so, I planned on really working hard on other pieces of work and it got my grade up. I like debating so, I tried to o very well on that. My over all goal was to keep my grades up and score points.
This project showed a few strengths like being creative with art using symbols and also just a pretty well drawn art piece. The most important strength is my debating though. In this debate it showed I did my research on mine and their Hawaiian hero, trying to find dirt. The debate also showed I made sure that, if someone found something against my person, I had a way to defend Eddie AIkau.
The 21st century skills I used in this project is a bit of Civic Literacy and Engagement, Communication Skills, and Interpersonal Skills. I used some Civic Literacy and Engagement by voting and being a leader in a group and being ranked. The communication skill was used because this project was pretty confusing and required many question. For the debate and quiz not card mostly required good communication skill, if you had a good communication by not being shy, it can help you win votes and in general. The next skill is Interpersonal that means teamwork basicly. I act as a leader in many ways, in this project I was automaticlly put as leader so I have to make a plan and make sure everyone is on the same page, while hearing others ideas and thoughts.
