Quarter 4 is mainly on climate change and the exhibition project is mostly about things that impact the earth in a good way. I'm in a group of 3, Ashlyn, Brooke, And I. We first created a website about ocean power since that was our topic, this website will have all the projects about climate change. We listed pages like who, what, where, when ,and why. We also emailed a organization called Nelha to ask about ocean power and get a few details coming from someone that works or worked with ocean power. A few other things in the project we included was how ocean power could reduce CO2 and how Ocean power contributes to Hawaii. In art class we created climate change posters to add to the project. In humanities each person created a very descriptive 1 page letter going from them to the earth talking about thing they observed and how they and humanity have lived while being on this planet. Since exhibition is not in person each person must create a screen recording about 3-5 min of them talking about there project and explaining it.
A few goals I have for this assignment is that, My group and I finish it on time. I also hope that our website makes a difference or impact to the community. Little things like throwing away a water bottle in recycling instead of trash is even a impact. A main goal is that my group and I work well together and make sure everyone has contributed to this project in some way. So far this project is going very well and we all are working well together.
During this assignment I learned that the ocean holds a lot of energy but humanity just has not used it as a resource. i also learned that many companies and organizations like a electric company has stopped a lot of research and designing of ways to harness ocean power. There has been many efforts to find a way to harvest this power and they did find ways, but then they stopped. So far I have liked learning about the cool ideas of harvesting ocean power. I also liked learning of how ocean power could impact Hawaii and Maui. In this assignment I struggled with making sure that each page on the website has enough information, so I don't have a page with only 1-3 sentences.
This project showcases a few 21st century skills like information, communication, and global awareness skills. This project was mostly based on research since we were not given something to base our project off of. Most of the information we found included lots of research on older websites that were updated in 2015 and we had to find ways to connect research from the past to today's research. The other 21st century skill is communication, this skill is very important since without it we would not get anything done. We decided to assign certain pages to each other and we made sure everyone agreed about what the layout of each page was going to be. It was also important to be open to new or different idea's. In all we picked ocean power as the project since it goes towards helping the earth switch to renewable energy. Global awareness is when you listen to certain communities and learn things that effect a community a certain way. In this project we looked out how ocean power could effect Hawaii, we found it could reduce lost of energy made by oil and coal in Hawaii. We also looked into mainland communities since many places in the US are not by the ocean. We found that ocean power can be transferred. We also listened to places that might not like the idea of ocean power due to a waste of money or disrupting reefs. We also looked at the reef problem and out there are many companies that create artificial reefs by creating a safe environment to help them grow and It seems that artificial reefs could be located on source for ocean power.
