Reflection
Last quarter my classmates and I had a Lab called the naked egg lab in biology. In this lab we put 1 egg in distilled water and one in corn syrup. We had to record the weight of each egg 36 hours and then daily. We had to record the Mass and the percent of mass change. We also had to record the appearance the liquids looked like. At the end we finished our analysis and conclusion. This lab explained osmosis and let us observed it.
I chose this work sample because it was very interesting to me. I also want to show it on my portfolio because it shows eggs going through osmosis that looks very thought-provoking. I also liked relating on how people's eggs turned out when the process was over.
This lab represents Thinking and problem solving since in a lab especially this one something can go wrong like your egg can break and you have to decide what to do about it. This experiment also used the scientific method since we first discussed How does concentration affect the movement of water across a biological membrane?. Then we researched it and then we used the lab experiment to show how the eggs as membranes used the movement of water through different liquids. After that we Analyzed and made a conclusion about your hypothesis.
This challenged me since this experiment you had to record data at a certain time and if you forgot that data would be lost. This lab shows that I can record and process information to use for analyzing and solving.
Next time I would have made sure to record the exact date and time to see the change in exactly 24 hours by setting a timer. I also would have been more careful to not disrupt the eggs when I would have to measure them.
