In humanity class, during quarter 3 we performed a Cuban missile crisis puzzle in groups of four. We were given a secret file with multiple pictures, some included the Russian missile base in Cuba and Castro shaking hands with Russian leader Khrushchev. Next, we got some newspapers during this crisis. All the photos and newspaper photos were real from that time. At the end of trying to figure out what was happening with these files, it was explained that it was the Cuban missile crisis. After learning about the crisis we were directed to send a letter to F. Kennedy explaining what was the best option to pick to get Russian bases and missiles out of Cuba.
The 21st-century skills that most correlated with this project were thinking and problem-solving because we had to come up with possible solutions and outcomes from the photos and paper given. If a solution was proven to not be reasonable we had to go in another direction. From this assignment, I am most proud of how well everyone's opinions and options were heard. Everyone had to work together to find the most possible outcome. I’m also pretty proud of how most people thought outside of the box with finding ways the united states could not cause a WW3 and also protect the United States by taking Russia out of Cuba. I Improved my 21st-century skill since this project challenged me and taught me the best ways to problem solve even though, the answer is hidden. The most difficult thing in completing this task was getting started and narrowing the puzzle down since at first you were given a hand full of documents, that you had to decipher. As you started moving down one path, you basically have decided the decision. If I redid this work I would have let my mind run full of possible outcomes just to see which solution made the most sense and which solution correlated with the newspaper's strongest. In the past, especially in this class, we do a lot of partnered projects. And most of the time you are trying to create and put your minds together. I can apply this to future learning since I know I will for sure take future classes on history and the information I have learned will for sure come in handy even in normal conversations about world war 2. |
