For this assignment we were assigned to create a lab on how to build Newton's cradle. We had to gather supplies to build it and describe what physics we used and what we would change about the cradle. At the end of the creation of the cradle, Ms. Hayes had us answer 2 questions asking what we would do differently next time and what forces were being used in the model. From this assignment, my partner and I actually created an extra model just to see if a longer rope would work better. In the end I was most proud of the first cradle we created since it worked well and was more sturdy.
I feel like I used communication skills for this project because I had to communicate back and forth between my partner and I on ideas and how we should build our project. For this project we needed marbles, string, popsicle sticks and more. To make sure we had these supplies, we had to divide up the tasks and keep each other up to date. And when creating the cradle, we did certain tasks and asked for help when needed. I improved communication skills by talking with my partner and sharing ideas on how we can create a model with certain supplies and different weights of objects. The most difficult thing about this project was a time frame. We were given an hour and thirty to create this model. Luckily with the use of materials from others sharing we were able to make this model. I could improve our cradle by taking time to measure out each string since due to our string just being a little uneven for each marble created forces to be less lined up, making the marbles not react fully. This can apply to future learning by having patience and taking time when things don’t always go as planned. There might be unexpected turns that can make a positive outcome. |
